Planning a wedding can be a stressful process, with hundreds of little decisions to make and details to keep straight. Thanks to the Internet, you no longer have to keep a bunch of notebooks to manage and plan your wedding. Online registries, virtual idea pinboards, and planning websites can help you track seating charts, guest information, dress and tux details, and contact information for officiants, DJs, caterers, photographers, and florists, plus a host of other tidbits.

When you need to access all this information on the go, turn to these apps — everything you need to keep your wedding plans organized, inspired, and on schedule, right in the palm of your hand.

1. iWedding Deluxe

Price: $4.99

iWedding Deluxe is about as comprehensive as wedding planning apps get. To-do lists, budgeting assistants, countdowns, and guest list organization are all included. But there are a lot of extras to be found, as well. You can specify whether guests will attend all day or only for specific parts of the event, set up seating plans and keep track of meal preferences, and even keep photos and information about the bride’s dress tucked safely behind a wall locked with a pin code, away from accidental peeking by the groom.

More from Tecca

2. Wedding Budget

Price: $2.99; free version also available

Sticking to a budget is difficult, but this handy app helps you keep track of all the myriad details, from deposits to payments to final due dates. You can break down wedding costs into categories and subcategories including ceremony, flowers, music, photography, and bridal party attire. Choose how much to allocate to each category, and keep track of how much you’ve spent and how much is left. Set reminders for when payments are due and see graphic representations of your budget.

3. The Knot Ultimate Wedding Planner

Price: Free

The Knot is one of the most popular wedding websites on the Internet. In 2011, The Knot released the Ultimate Wedding Planner companion app, and it sure doesn’t disappoint. This planner features a countdown to the big day, wedding checklists, a comprehensive and easy-to-use budget tool, and inspiration for dresses, cakes, flowers, and more. You can access and update all your tools from TheKnot’s website, as well.

4. WeddingScan

Price: Free

Creating your wedding registry is one of the most fun parts of planning a wedding, but who wants to limit themselves to just one store? With the WeddingScan app, you can scan barcodes from items at any store and add them to a centralized registry onWeddingScan.com. Items are even geotagged with location information, so friends and family can see where you scanned them.

5. Fun Wedding

Price: 99 cents

You might think coming up with a music playlist is the easiest part of wedding planning, until you actually sit down to do it. You write down a favorite song or two, and then your mind goes blank. That’s where Fun Wedding comes in to help you find the perfect songs for every part of the event. You can listen to song samples, create a request list, search by year or genre, and get suggestions for the bride and groom’s first dance, father and bride dance, and bouquet and garter toss, among others.

6. Ultimate Wedding Planner

Price: Free

The Ultimate Wedding Planner is an all-in-one resource for all aspects of wedding planning in a friendly, accessible, down-to-earth package. You’ll find gown selection hints, wedding style ideas, and advice from wedding insiders. A worksheet section will help you plan your budget, wedding day schedule, and more.

Cut the stress, keep the joy

A wedding should be a joyous, happy occasion, and anything you can do to help eliminate the worry and stress that comes with planning a big event is a blessing. Whether you need a comprehensive wedding planner or just a little help wrangling the budget into shape, one (or more!) of these apps should fit the bill. Then you can sit back, relax, and let the wedding bells ring, knowing no detail has gotten lost in the shuffle!

Dare to dream

With this, the release of her second collection, Sareh Nouri transports you to an era of timeless elegance, a time where all things are possible…

With a flick of your wrist, and I might add that the detailing Sareh has added to each and every dress is as unique as her vision, you are well on your way to realizing that the dream is real and it’s yours for the taking.

Nine dresses, each billowing over with yards and yards of the finest lace, dare I say it, the meringuiest of tule. So light and effervescent. All very different. “All like children,” as described by Sareh herself. Each one more unique than the next. Each one bringing forth it’s own path, a path that leads directly to you. You know what they say, “That when you put on the right dress, you know it”.

So, if you’re having the buttons that drip down the small of your back closed from here to there, and it appears that you have all the time in the world to languish in the moment…remember this. The time is now and it’s yours, so take it. After all, if not now, than when?

On the day you became a Mrs.

As a little girl you dreamed about your perfect wedding day, and now as a grown woman you are planning your actual nuptials, so I have to ask, “Has anything changed…I mean really changed?” “Did we grow into the women that we were meant to be?”

When you stood in front of your mirror and pictured yourself as a bride, was it more about your face, the dress, the groom? I mean we all played Mystery Date when we were kids…right? Ok maybe that was just me. But I digress yet again.

Do you see yourself as a classic bride, a modern bride, traditional bride or something else altogether. I ask this as I’m in the midst of a bridal season and I have had the pleasure of doing many weddings where the brides, oddly enough, seem to have categorized themselves. This stands out to me for so many reasons, I have 30 years in the industry and usually there is a picture or a reference point, but rarely have they mentioned their style to me, by category…because this is how I usually ask them about their personal style.

When I think of a classic bride, I think of Princess Grace, Princess Diana, and when I think of traditional, I reference Elizabeth Taylor in the movie “Father of the Bride”, or Kate Middleton. The reference points have changed these days. I’m getting (thank goodness) references like Ivanka Trump, Kim Kardashian, and Jennifer Lopez. The brides today see their beauty in many different ways; the refreshing thing is that for the most part, they are staying true to themselves.

I’m currently working on a wedding where I have known the bride since she was a teen. She was a wild child and since she has grown, she has maintained her individuality but it has matured, always acceptable, always enjoyable, but now that she is getting married I found it curious that her comments to me were that she wanted to be minimal, more classic. Yet after a beautiful application (even if I say so myself) during her trial, I loved it and so did she but I found that she was reaching into her past for an edgier side. I again found this curious so we ended up doing a smokier eye, not always my favorite for weddings as sometimes it can come off a little too dark. If I felt it was wrong I would have spoken to her but I know her and I knew where she was coming from, and going to. The end result was beautiful and I assure you she will be a stunner, I can’t wait to see if on her wedding day she’s feeling more classic and soft or still feeling the edge. Either way, I’m happy to be a part of her day to ensure that her vision is carried out so that when she looks back, and she will, that she will know for sure that she has never looked lovelier, staying true to herself.

I also received a call to do a wedding where the bride was a young lady that I had worked on many years before. I did her make up for her prom years ago, (WOW I’m getting old,) but I was so touched that she felt so taken care of on that day that she sought me out for the most special day of her life. Again I’m in awe. No trial was needed, and when I arrived, she looked the same, just a few years older and very self assured, and she had grown into a beautiful woman all of 24 or 25 (wink). I watched her maneuver around the guests and her bridal party, she was a woman who knew exactly who she was and I for one love to see that. She stated to me “I want to be classic…a classic bride…with red lips but I’m not so sure maybe pink?” This was my cue, I got her makeup all done and then we tried the red, it seemed to overpower her. In 30 years I have only used red on one bride, (it’s not my favorite shade for weddings)

So I bronzed her for balance and took the edge off with some gloss in a shade that softened the red so that it seemed to all looking to be not a red lipstick, but the perfect shade for her to be married in…and for sure it was. She was after all a “classic bride”.

You see, sometimes, you dream of your moment, your perfect moment, and I assure you that they do exist. Stay true to yourself. If the face you put on is just that, “a put on,” then what really is the point? I have to ask. On this day that is all about you, it would be amazing if in hindsight, you could say that “All the stars aligned, all that you worked towards and for came together…on the day you became a Mrs.”

This month I’m putting myself in the hot seat, well sort of. I’m going to post a piece that I wrote for Contemporary Bride magazine a little while ago. It’s my take on bridal beauty, the ins and the outs as I see it. You can ask many other makeup artists and get so many different takes on bridal make up. Our styles of makeup vary depending on our exposure and that’s the beauty of what we do.

Your special day can be whatever you so desire it to be. It’s all about you. I do say this a lot…because if it’s not all about you (on this your wedding day, then when?)

Hits and Mrs.

My wedding-day “I dos” and don’ts

to ensure that the bride-to-be puts her best face forward

Your wedding day is not like picture day in grammar school or like taking a new face book picture. There are no second chances, no re-shoots. And unlike your fifth-grade portrait, your wedding album is going to be around forever, a cherished memento of a blessed event. So, naturally, the bride-to-be wants to take every precaution to ensure that on her big day, she not only hears the words “I do,” but also the words “I do… not think I’ve ever seen you look lovelier!”

And here’s the good news: Provided that you follow a few basic rules of the beauty trade, you- yes, you!-can get your wedding-day make-up down pat, leaving yourself a bride with no reason to blush but for sheer happiness. Trust me on this: I’ve sent hundreds of brides down the aisle, and if there is anything left that I haven’t seen, I can’t imagine what it is.

Put Your Face in Good Hands

In my experience, the biggest mistake that brides make is traveling the path of least resistance on their way to the altar. Translation: They have their maid of honor do their make-up, or, even trickier, they do it themselves.

But why? I ask you. You’ve gone to the trouble to check photographers’ portfolios, so hadn’t you ought to be equally concerned with what’s really important-what the shutterbug is going to be photographing-you! In a million years, you wouldn’t think of asking Uncle Johnny to take your wedding pictures, so why on earth would you invite Aunt Marge to do your make-up? If it is at all possible, go with a pro.

Seasons Change; Your Wedding Pictures Don’t

That said, choose carefully the pro with whom you go. Some brides visit the cosmetics counter to get their make-up done, and that would be fine, were it not for the fact that the salesperson’s objective is not to ensure that you come away with timeless wedding photos, but rather, to promote their particular line of products.

In addition, more often than not, the cosmetics-counter salesclerk’s goal is to keep seasonal colors flying off the shelves. Let’s face it: Objectively, who really looks good when they are photographed in seasonal colors?

Plus, even if you are able to find a cosmetics clerk who brings out the prettiness in your face, who is to say that he or she will be available to make a house call on the day of your nuptials? Also keep in mind, some stores don’t even allow their employees to engage this kind of outside work from their customers, and they can be fired for this practice. That’s right: Welcome back to square one.

Rules to Glow By

Now, don’t start wringing your hands before the big exchanging of rings. Your makeup should-and can-be the least of your wedding-day worries. Even if you haven’t factored into your budget a professional make-up artist’s fee, you still can achieve a look that takes the cake.

Let’s start with what to do so as to avoid having a guest respond to the question, “Does anyone know of a reason why this man and this woman should not be joined in holy matrimony?” with the reply: “Well… her make-up looks kind of bad.”

          1. Take a powder. This always bothers me the most: Brides forget to powder, then wind up looking shiny-faced in all of their photos. Of course, the pictures can be touched up after the fact, but that’s costly (and it’s not like weddings don’t already come with high price tags). The solution is to make sure that you powder several times or at the very least use those fabulous blotting papers , and if you are afraid that you will forget to, ask someone to keep an eye on you and let you know when you’re ready for a touch up.

          2. Remember that frosting belongs on the cake, not your face. Make-up with too much frost is a definite no-no. Satin shades can be very nice, but those shades with a silver hue look more like glitter than shadow.

          3. Repeat after me: Less is more… more or less. Someone once said to a natural, no-make-up kind of girl that she needed to wear more make-up to show up in pictures, and the rest is history. But the fact is, today, with newer formulas of cosmetics and even better digital photography and good lighting, you don’t need to wear more make-up to get ready for your close-up. You are in the clear to do whatever makes you look your best. Assuming that you are wearing some make-up already, any photographer worth his zoom lens will adjust his lighting rather than have you adjust your make-up.

          4. Pay not attention to the seasons. Avoid wearing seasonal colors! I’m sure you’re asking yourself, ‘Why does he keep bringing this up?” The truth is, it’s my pet peeve. And if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it thousands of times: Your wedding photos should be timeless. They are your treasures forever, not just for one season out of four.

          5. Take your time. If you opt to do your own make-up, do not try to do so in two minutes, all the while juggling 50 other tasks ranging from directing the caterer to the microwave to changing place cards to keep Aunt Kathy out of Granny’s line of vision. Give yourself at least half an hour to do your make-up so that you can be alone and really relax (relatively speaking) while you figure out the best plan of attack.

          6. Be yourself. Don’t try to look like a star. The reason that stars look like stars is because they look like themselves-and they just happen to be stars. What you should concentrate on is looking like yourself, only better-or rather, like you would look if you paid a little bit more attention to detail and shape. This mighty feat can be accomplished with make-up.

         7. Avoid being red-faced. Please, don’t tan. And if you must, be careful. If you get too much color, the skin tone absorbs the make-up, and you have to add that much more just to see cheeks and lips. You only have to watch an episode of the Jersey Shore to understand what I mean. So, before it’s too late, think. Let that little light bulb go off in your head before you subject your face to the sun or to the tanning booth.

         8. Take care of your skin. So many brides don’t mask before their wedding day, but doing so is most important. The photographer certainly is going to take some closeup shots of your face, and you have to be prepared. Remove all of those dead skin cells. (And don’t lie; we all have them!)

         9. Make sure that you’re getting enough of a good thing. Take care to see that you use enough make-up. I know: It sounds like I’m contradicting myself. But some brides go for three tanning sessions and think that that is enough-it isn’t! You do need make-up. So, all of you natural ladies, remember that to go from looking pretty to looking pretty amazing, even you will have to tweak the edges.

        10. Blend your make-up, but don’t blend into the crowd. Your wedding is not a cosmetics ad; the whole wedding party should not wear the same shades of make-up. When I do a wedding party, the bride gets her own lip shade, and no one else gets to use it. That way, in all of the photos, there is yet another element to set her apart.

So, now that you know my do’s and don’ts. Tread lightly, trust the professionals that you hired and create a magical day to last a lifetime, in your hearts and in the pictures that you and your family will cherish forever.

peace,
